Ayurvedic Medicine For Wellbeing

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an ancient science which looks at your life in terms of balance and ease between your various systems.  The word ‘disease’ stems from this older understanding of health and illness.  Dis-ease represents both the subtle and more overt signs of being out of ‘ease’ within one's life.  Ayurveda is a  medical approach that educates you as well as provides answers to support your return to balance and ease.

Ayurveda is fast becoming highly recognized by western medicine for its approach to health and healing through the teachings of 'food as medicine', movement as prevention, and meditation as a means to integration for a more complete experience of life.  The knowledge and wisdom encompassed within the Ayurvedic principles complement western practices and are increasingly CONFIRMED by scientific studies as good medicine.

In the western world, the general understanding of health and well-being has been reduced to an absence of disease. That understanding has been found to be limited, even lacking, as the limits of pharmacological solutions and surgical interventions render many people without answers for how to LIVE WELL.

But simply consider the word, dis-ease. When any system in our human experience is out of order, there is dis-ease. And left unaddressed, untreated, that dis-ease will become a disease and require interventions. The alternative is to learn how to LIVE WELL.

LIVING WELL includes an understanding for balance within the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual systems.  Ayurveda has answers to provide for those who want their health to be fortified with the ancient wisdom of integration for wholeness and wellbeing.

Ayurveda is the science of life. It is a knowledge and teaching that dates back 5,000 years to ancient India. In fact, some of western science for medicine is derivative of the Ayurvedic knowledge-base.

In the west, it was Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon who pioneered the expansion of western style medicine to include Ayurvedic methods. Their expert synthesis of the two traditions has led to advancements in medicine that were previously believed to be pseudo-science. There is an acknowledgement that there is far more to medicine, science, and healing than pharmacological prescriptions and surgical interventions. Without a doubt, they have their place. When a disease has reached a stage when a well-trained surgeon must excise the disease, it is imperative to trust your doctor when such conditions exist. But that does not preclude the wisdom and medicine of Ayurveda to support the body in averting an advanced stage of dis-ease.

To be sure, anything done poorly or addressed from a shallow body of experience will render poor results. However, Ayurveda taught well, shared well, and practiced well often yields quality results. Ayurveda is not pseudo-medicine, nor is it pseudo-science. Ayurveda in complement with western medicine is advisable and effective.

Medicine is far more than taking a pill or asking a doctor for a diagnosis.  Medicine is more than counting calories or chasing the new "health" product. Now is the time for more people to have a broader understanding of medicine, their own health care responsibilities, and a renewed awareness for what it means to be healthy.
